What’s a Book Whisker?

Definition of a Book Whisker: Someone who takes a bunch of alphabet letters and whooshes and whisks them up until words start to form. Then those words get baked together into a story that’s delicious and delightful.

Can I be a Book Whisker?

If you have a pile of alphabet letters and a good whisker, you, too, can be a Book Whisker! A whisker can be a pencil and piece of paper, a blank file on your computer, an audio recorder—anything that can whisk all those words into a story.

Where do you come up with ideas for a whisked story?

Story ideas are not magical treasures that hide in trees or burrow under the ground. They are everywhere in plain sight. Look around—do you have a funny friend who managed to laugh so hard milk came out his nose? Does your neighbor have a silly dog who will chase anything you throw? Did your sister make cupcakes and they came out ugly but scrumptious!

All you have to do is ask yourself, “What if?”  What if your friend got in trouble for making fun of someone when he really didn’t mean to? What if you threw a valuable baseball and your neighbor’s dog buried it in the yard of that spooky house down the street? What if your sister decides to enter a cooking contest with her amazingly weird cupcakes?

Be on the lookout for ordinary people doing ordinary things, then use the magic words, “What if?”

So, maybe story ideas really are magical treasures!
